My parents and brother met with a surgeon at the hospital tonight. He said the scan showed a blockage in my Dad's small intestine and this could be a twisted bowel, scar tissue that has grown or there is the possibility that it is cancer which has started outside the bowel. They have to do more tests and then decide how to proceed. Let's pray for twisted bowel!
Hey, I'm up for any alternative that doesn't require surgery! Apparently the most common cause is scar tissue but once Dad heard the C word...well, that was it for him. Having had cancer before (which explains the scar tissue) it is a huge fear. I hope they gave him something to help him sleep tonight.
Wii, let's hope and pray for the least of these ills. Or, even, something that the doctors haven't considered that is even less problematic.

Just got back from visiting with my Dad at the hospital. He's got his own room now after almost three days lying in Emerg. He's in good spirits and still has his sense of humour...which I suppose is a good thing! Next they'll be doing tests to see what the blockage actually is and we'll go from there.
Both Mom and Dad are glad he's out of emerg. Dad's family doctor has urged mom to write a letter of complaint to the hospital. The rude treatment was just incredible! One time Mom bumped into a nurse in the hall and was accused by the nurse of "pushing" her! Just incredible, a 75 year old woman who is very polite and understanding being treated in such a manner. Whenever she asked a question she would get not only a gruff reply but a rude one. When I went to emerg to visit Dad my brother warned me "be prepared to be disembowelled!". Thank goodness Dad's in a room now!
I don't think I will be rushing off to Canada anytime soon due to illness. cheap prescriptions...maybe. lol Keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
hugs, kat

Kat, any previous experience we've had with that hospital and the Emerg have been very positive, that's why my parents are so shocked at the treatment they recieved this time. I guess it depends on a lot of different factors. The nursing staff on the floor he's on now seem very caring and polite. Dad's cancer doctor was in to see him this morning and assured him that everything will be done to get to the bottom of this and the surgeon who's on the case mom refers to as an "angel". So, it ain't all bad!
