The ring (tag) is a sign of who she belongs to, where her home is, who to call when she is in need, that this isn't a stray but a cat who is loved and cared for. Because if she's out and about what does the signal of no tag send? It matters.
I agree totally. I can't just sneak up on her while she's sleeping with a hot iron marker.
