Yes, if you haven't been begging and telling them how wonderful they are, you probably need to do more of that

It also helps if you assure them that no matter what they do--cheating, squandering your savings, insults and name calling, selling your golf clubs in a garage sale without asking you, putting you down in front of others, and so on--you will always love them and forgive them even if they don't want to be forgiven and think you deserve it all.
