Not a whole lot happening despite my little snafu the other night.
As I expected, the issue did not come up. W was home before me in a good mood and wanted to talk about her work.
There is some interesting developments and also some personnel issues. I listened closely and agreed with a lot of what she thought was right things for her to do/say. She showed me a lot of text messages and had me listen to one of the voicemails she received from some disappointed client.
We talked about the importance of keeping "friendship" at arm's reach with some clients in order to keep business professional and also stress free by lowering their expectations for special treatment.
She needed to respond to her voicemail and I suggested a lunch meeting instead of call back. We discussed what she would have to say.
She had pretty much everything figured out by herself and at one point I said "You know exactly what to do and say." She replied, "But I highly value your opinion and I like to get my own thoughts validated by you. You have always been there for me and I would not be as successful as I am today if you had not been by my side all these years. I have gained invaluable wisdom from you and it will continue."
I smiled and said, "This has always been mutual and I continue learning as well."
She ended, "I really like those talks we have, it relieves my stress. I often think I know what to do but talking to you clears my feelings about my stressful situations and brings clarity to my thoughts."
I really felt appreciated although I really did not have much to offer. Her statement however summed it up for me. Sometimes just being there is enough.
