Since I am going to be your next of kin you can use one of my names. Do you like long or short, hard or easy? wow, I AM talking about names! blush

When I was just starting out on my own I was surprised to learn that my real father had moved in to a place just across the street from me. He lived there for more than 6 months and we never met or said hi. Not once. I figure he felt too guilty for what he had done to my mom and family.

I think we should go with Clooney - so we can say that he really wasn't such an affirmed bachelor, after all, just very private!

In Hong Kong the Chinese choose English first names to go by and when they get tired of it they just change it. Of course, their Chinese names are legally recognized but, I guess due to the history of colonizing by the English, they pick English names and go by those in everday life. I've met a woman named Tweety, how do you keep a straight face when you're introduced to Tweety? I almost lost it when I was introduced to a Chinese woman named Boris! Anyway, just thought I'd throw that in for the heck of it.

So many options for a new last name!!! I never even thought of making up a whole new name. :- )

Is the divorce process going ok for you? Do your boys talk much about their dad?

Aha! I finally found your thread.

Sorry to hear about yet another dumb stunt by your STBXH. He is probably feeling too guilty to see the kids much, especially when it's obvious they are on to what a moron he's been. Makes you feel for the kids so much.

About your new last name...that's kind of exciting! All the possibilities! When my D process began I was set to change my name back, but by the time the court date came around I was already moved across the continent and wanted to keep that connection with my son. No one knew us here and I wanted it to be obvious even on paper that I was his mom.

But choosing brand new name, that's pretty cool! How about something Greek? Maybe something really over the top Irish? Or you could do an english translation of Native American, like Runs with Bears or Climbs Mountains.

I have done some extensive genealogy research and I am thinking of choosing an old family name. These people came to America in the late 1700's from Ireland and later during the potato famine the whole name died out over there. I've been to the town and I kind of like the history associated with it.

I've also checked locally and can't find the name listed in the phone book or online (411 . com)

I'm really leaning toward using it.

Sounds like a perfect choice for all the right reasons! Not sure about your state, but in many states it is relatively inexpensive to change you name if you do it in conjunction with a divorce action.
