Yes Grit as a matter of fact I can relate to the above.

1) I still remember the old converse high tops. I am an avid basketball player so FTR, I still wear high tops. I was pretty good as a kid. Was able to dunk when I was 12. I was the flashy point guard for a church league.

I talked to the lawyer who is setting up a new company for me and my business partner.

We talked about the protection of assets etc and the fact that I am M but separated.

He advised me that in my state that remaining M only exposes me to further risk from a financial perspective.

Unfortunately the laws in my state promote divorce in this instance because there is no legal separation.

My choices are to accept the risk that W could come after my income which looks like will be getting greater.

My only choices are to file which sets the date of assets to be considered in the M.

Longer I wait the more exposure I have.

Let me be clear my W hasn't asked me for a divorce.

I am in a quandry becuase I don't know IF this M is something we can reconcile.

That is a process we have not even begun or discussed.

Need some help on this...my friends.

I was under the assumption that our marital assets were frozen on the date that established a separate residence.

The judge can decide to use the filing date as it turns out.

right now we both are not making the income we used to so there is nothing for her to come after.

My income could increase dramtically if/when I close some deals that have going right now.

She could hire a lawyer and come after me for temporary alimony even though we were only married 2 1/2 years when I left.

I would have to pay for her attorneys fees too so some lawyer would do it just for the fees.

Yes I guess you could say that. I hadn't heard from her in over a week until last night (ironically)
