I agree she'd probably flip crazy if she found out, but I'll do her the respect of telling her if I feel the need to pursue this. I don't necessarily feel that way right now. If she really doesn't want anything to do with this M and R then I owe her that respect.

I've read this twice, and I'm still confused. You say she'd flip crazy, if she found out. But then you're still going to be involved with this new professor. That's just walking around a gasoline refinery with an open flame.
