I threw in the towel a few times...only to later realize that I wasn't "done"...I guess at some point you KNOW...I am glad I never got to that point...I lasted about 2 years, filed for D twice, and didn't dismiss the last filing until nearly 3 yrs after filing!
Taking a break is good...sometimes it helps us see something we were missing before...
