I'm a runner and stopped by your thread because your name cracks me up.
Take Aleve if you can every 12 hours when you up your miles or if it's only the race day that bothers you .... start 2-3 days before and 2-3 days after.
Ice after runs for 15 minutes helps and stretching can not be done enough.... before and especially after. Nothing major but a few times throughout the day.
