He wouldn't let me get my driving permit or license before I was 18. He tries to micromanage everything.
Luckily I haven't had to tolerate it as much this last decade cuz I've been able to be pretty much independent other than a bit around the S and D.
I started telling my dad when he'd get on one of his rants about what I should do/buy that I would take that into consideration and ending the conversation. It only took a couple times for him to come to the realization that he couldn't actually dictate things to me lol.
It definitely strains our relationship though. I'm much much closer to my mother.
Course, I also wonder how she's put up with him for over 35 years!

I'm with Jeff on both accounts! My father is a total control freak too and has always tried to treat us like 10 year-old children when we go home. Most of the time I let it roll off my back, but occasionally he gets way out of line and I don't hesitate to let him know. After the first couple of times and the shock wore off that I was actually standing up to him, surprise, surprise he does this quite less now - at least to me.
Really Jeff...just a "bit" of a control freak? yes he wants to control everything/everyone that he can. He does love me though and I know that. Allowing my Dad in my life entails a price, as long as it doesn't go up, I can handle it. Boy divorce is making me tougher all around. lol
It wasn't my son's birthday that my Dad made the fuss. It was mine. He wasn't clear that he didn't want S17 to order what he ended up ordering. Whatever.
Thanks Kerry. I like being able to handle this stuff better. I think it was something for him too because he didn't talk to me for a week and usually he calls way too often. Grasshopper is becoming a duck! What a trick!

It doesn't matter whose birthday it was... when you take people out, you shut up and pay. If there are rules, you tell people ahead of time. Don't expect mind reading! Like you said... whatever!
I agree Jeff. I really do. But I am dealing with a brick wall there. Even my Mom said he has these spells where he just can't see reason and is a bit crazy. He always has to be right but we all know he isn't.
He also knows that I don't always listen to his advice. So he has to take my 75 cents of good and 25 cents of bad or diappointing or whatever too. Gee I hope our roles were never reversed in a previous life and I am paying for it now!! lol

Have you watch Gran Torino? Your dad sounds like him. I think I'll be like him too when I'm older.
*shotgun loading sound* GET OFF MY LAWN!!

"We piled punks like you six high and used them as sandbags in Korea" Gotta love Clint...until he takes his shirt off these days! Personally, I liked when he visit the gangbanger, kicks the crap out of him and then limps home!
HAHAHA!!! I love his 'tough talk' but I do think CE is the man's man!
I don't like seeing guys without their shirts either but even at his age his body's still more ripped than mine...bastard! Must be genetics...yeah that's it.

Scary thing is my Dad does that PX90 so he really is in great shape for a 66 year old! I need to think of someone hot with their shirt off, someone without a hairy chest. Gee I am drawing a blank. I know there are some guys out there that match that criteria. I will probably think of someone before I go to bed. Might make for some nice dreams.
