Yeah, Kerry. He knew all of the coaches and ADs from the 70s-90s. In a way the lifestyle he lived though that era is what killed him in the end. Too much travel, good food, good drink, and not enough exercise, etc. Throw in some bad genes, and probably a bit of bad luck, and there you go.
Mish, I don't think there are any other independents of consequence, though BYU just announced they are going that way. Penn State was the other big independent until they joined the Big-10 in 1990.

Wasn't the University of Miami also a major independent at one time?
How are you feeling? Everything I've read about your uncle is amazing. And since college football is my favorite sport, I'm just awed by his accomplishments. I remember the Sugar Bowl when we won, pretty cool. Now it is making me very sad that I didn't use our tickets this weekend, but driving through the night to get to the game, I didn't think I could do it. Hopefully our youngster will stand up to Bama this weekend.
And, "sampling the buffet", yikes. Though I figure I have 2 years before I would be ready for that, so I gotta get active on Mission MILF.
Have fun with the Greek Lady. Can't wait to hear the details (I need to live vicariously through someone).

(((((Dagny))))) I am not better, but I am certainly not worse, either. I see the doc again tomorrow, we will see what he hears in the lungs.
What was the most impressive thing about my uncle was that he took his passion for sports and made a good living out of it. How many people really manage that?
The "buffet" can be a bit intimidating. I have found that the no expectations mantra is pretty useful. I have a feeling that you will be plenty MILFy when you are ready!
I am sure I will post more about the Greek Lady, too! Hopefully it will be good!
Well, the doc says I am not dead, but that I am not "out of the woods". He was/is taking this pretty seriously, said that his plan for last week was to keep me out of the hospital! He said my lungs were still tight, but improved. Had a chest x-ray which was clear. I see him again Tuesday.
But, in a case of silver lining... one of the women in his office teaches math at the community college in the evening. Somehow, while I was in the waiting room I ended up taking the algebra test she was working on, and mentioned that I had always kind of wanted to teach math at the community college. She jumped all over that, she was excited about seeing if they could use me! I think it would be fun, and, well, add to the checking account!
Have a wonderful weekend Jeff but don't overdo anything. Your health is much more important!
Football all weekend sounds like a great plan. I'm having a hard time decided which games to watch and which to skip so that I actually get something accomplished today.
