So weird because ex just asked me if I really wasn't helping finacially with S17's college until 2nd year. I replied that there are a number of ways to help financially but that I wasn't paying tuition for the first year. S17 needs to show me that he wants it.

I expect the same of his siblings by the way. This has been my game plan ever since S17 was a baby. So many kids goof off the first year and mess up, I figure he is less apt to do that if he is the one paying. S17 knows this is my plan. Yes he has a lot of money to come up with or he has to go to a juco or go to the local university. where there is a will, there is a way.

I am glad you can get along with your ex. Ultimately I do think it is nice for the kids that you can get along. And it decreases your stress level, too, right?

I have already been thinking about the college thing even though my oldest only just turned 8! I will save up some money for them, but I want them to keep up their grades and work to earn scholarships, too. And I figure my 'financial aid' will be conditional on them maintaining good grades once they are in college...

You are getting a storm?? Lucky you!

My parents paid my car insurance while I was in college. Every little bit helps lol.

My XH's parents had a deal with him and his sister. They would pay half of tuition, books, and rent so long as they kept over a 3.0. They did it for 5 years with SIL cuz she did an engineering degree. She had a few close calls with the gpa thing as those classes were brutal, but she worked and worked hard and life was good. XH on the other hand...let's just say they didn't end up paying for anything LOL.

I wanted to own my education. Ex's parents paid for just about everything. I can see the difference between us and know that won't necessarily be the same with the kids. I still believe if things are just handed to you, you won't appreciate it. I hope I am playing this hand correctly.

I think it's true; you appreciate what you work for, not what's handed to you. Hey, netflix is sending me Leap Year-thought of you when I ordered it! Did you like it? How's your weekend going? The kids are over at their dad's this weekend...but I'm enjoying the peace & quiet. Something I know you have no idea what that's like!!! smile

I really liked it. S14 thought parts of it were just hilarious. the other kids liked it to. So a nice way to spend the last day of the long weekend. I so don't want to go back to work. Oh well, neither do many other people i know.

Kat, if Leap Year comes in want to watch it tomorrow night? Kids will be here Wed. through Sunday and Daniel is 2 weeks behind in English-not doing it at his dad's and then my internet was down last week, so we need to catch up. If it doesn't come in, I'll email you right away.

Sounds good.

So not a great end to the weekend. I let s17 borrow my car to do an errand and a lady hit him and then took off. He followed her. After he caught up with her he called me and I met him. She tried to say that she didn't hit him, that the marks had been on her car. When the police finally came, it turned out that she had a warrant. Hard part was telling my parents who are on my car. My Dad is mad and my Mom is understanding. Sigh.
