Let me guess for you then: you settled into life, began to take each other for granted, little things like leaving your socks in the floor, where you put things (organization), personal habbits and so on become a source of contention. You criticised one another, resentment built, and men can usually tollerate quite a bit of this sort of thing (more future positive oriented often, so the focus isn't on present happiness) before the realize they're miserable, and women seem to tollerate being miserable a lot less.

In short, you both forgot to take time to enjoy things in the present? That's the most common scenario.

Sometimes, it's the other way around with time perspectives: the man can't keep a job, he's always playing video games and hanging out with his friends and always very much in the moment, and the woman wants to know she has a secure future, and it's her thinking of the future, and she doesn't see one.

In the end, it was either a miserable present or poor future prospects and a history of bickering (bad memories).

Am I close?

Yeah, we're all unique... just like everybody else.

You nailed it.
