This is like sports. To be successfull, you have to condition and practice and work your a$$ off. You have to make goals, both large and small and then work to achieve them. At first, everybody plays. It has to be that way for them to learn the game.

But as the players age, less and less get significant playing time and eventually either quit or don't make the team.

The coach can only do so much. He can teach tecnique and come up with plays and assignments, but he can't take the field. the players have to accept the coaching and go execute. AND they have to give full effort.

I've played with and coached many fine athletes who for whatever reason didn't always go all out. It was a shame for them to be so gifted, yet ride the pines behind someone who was not as gifted in body, but who would not be out-worked. They call it "having heart".

I'd take one Wes Welker or Rudy over a whole team of Terell Owens' and Holywood Hendersons. Those guys just want it more.

Pup, I don't think anyone could say anything negative about you taking this approach. I mean, you did your time in the grinder and stayed around to help others. Total strangers at that. You've paid it forward in full many times over, and I know that I'm not alone in feeling very thankfull to you for your help.

Now I just hope I make the cut:)

Seriously, at least I know that if not, it'll be my own inability to execute that buys me my spot on the bench. It's almost never the coach's fault a kid doesn't work hard or screws up his assignments.
