If I understand you correctly the outside lock and the inside lock should clamp the door together so you shouldn't need anything else.

Ok I can't see it at work but just the "for dummies" part has me cracking up! I think I will actually call Schlage to see what they say, since it is their electronic lock. They do also have a video on their site for my lock but this issue my dear friends is the current lock takes a chunk out of the edge/panel part of the door when I remove it. frown

Ohhh....so part of the door is actually part of the lock?

Part of the door was chiseled out to put the lock in. It is probably a box area of 6" x 4" and not quite the width of the door. So when you take off the handles, take off the part that turns the deadbolt, you can see the tumblers etc through the hole in the door where your key would go.

You can't just put a new lock through that. So you look at the edge of the door and you can see where the lock comes out and realize that there is a faint outline of this "box" section. Pry that out and the whole thing comes out. Fairly easy to take apart, not so easy fitting it all back together just so. I want to really know what I am doing before I attempt this again.

Definitely. YIKE! That sounds really complex....or jerry-rigged (not sure how you spell that).

Well I got something from the hardware store to cover the hole on the side of the door but think I am going to still need some wood at least to put in where the lock "box" was. Also bought the bit for my drill to cut the whole larger. Feeling a bit better thinking I might be able to make this work after all. Not going to attempt it until this weekend though.

Did I ever mention, I love hardware stores? (Office supply stores too!) They fill me with such hope that I can tackle the next issue! lol

LOL! I get overwhelmed in hardware stores. Not so much the Ace type ones, but Home Depot freaks me out. TOO MANY CHOICES!!

Office supplies inspire me to organize but once I get them home it never materializes. I see exactly how much crud I have to organize and throw my hands in the air in disgust. grin

kat, I thought you'd get a laugh out of the dummies link smile

Glad you got it all sorted out. Take pics next time so we know which thingamagigy or a thingamabob we're talking about.

I love hardware stores and tools...mmmm...tools...

I love Home Depot type stores! But I tend to hang out in the outdoor/yard care areas...I know my limitations. For a lock I am sorry I would not be brave enough to do it, I would hire it out. There are some things better left to someone other than me. wink

Mishka every time I organize one small piece of my world it seems to show me how many other parts still need cleaning up!

I get an email from ex this morning saying that he is going to be out of the state week x in October and he wants the girls for one night of my weekend. No explanation at all.

I am no dummy(despite my lock situation). Ex is getting married and wants the girls in it even though they have told me that they have said no several times. This is my time and he has given no reason to have them then.

I don't even know if he realizes how much he lies to me. Really for what reason? Just tell the truth and you will get further. I am definetly going to not be in town that weekend. Keep myself busy and forget about it.
