MLC is often confused with manic depression,PTSD, and other mental illnesses. There are two types of MLC, high energy and low energy. I would think depending on which type of MLC'er you have then you would see corresponding types of mental illness. I am guessing bipolar for the more high energy types. Pure "depression" for the low energy ones. The replay antics can be vastly different depending on which type of MLC they are in.

If it is truly MLC and not the actual mental illness once the crisis is over those symptoms should disappear.
But you are learning why I thought that your husband was not as far along as you thought. He still has more to go in this process. I wish I could tell you this happens fast but sadly it does not.

You must continue to keep your expectations low, and see where this is all going.

Lance,..........

OK. God has a sense of humor. smirk First he has you respond to my concern about whether XH might have manic depression........I voice this concern because I'm thinking I don't know whether I want to deal long-term with a Mr. GAG who might have manic depression. You wrote this........

Then...........in the middle of my clinic day God sends me a patient to evaluate who has real, honest-to-goodness bipolar disorder crazy .......In fact, she has been on disability for this for 25 years it seems, but is in total denial. She says "my doctors keep telling me I have bipolar, but I don't. I have XXXX. I think these doctors are committing fraud by diagnosing me with bipolar". Her thoughts are all over the place.........she's making accusations about her family and her XH..............she is undoubtedly in a manic phase...........I think to myself. "OK, God. I hear you. Message received".

XH has never acted in any way like this patient...........When I think about them side-by-side it becomes pretty clear that XH doesn't have manic depression like this woman. ..........

Just needed to share that. Thank you God for being patient with me and showing me signs along the way.

GAG

GAG, new to your thread, but have read all the way through. I'm a roadie/tri rider dealing with an MLC squirrel as well. I was encouraged by your interaction with your H. For a long time I thought I needed no contact in order to detach. This was an impossibility due to our young kids.
We've had two counseling sessions together, yet I still feel like I'm walking in a minefield. I'll try to emulate your optimistic detachment. Thanks,CNS
