He probably did say call him back, but by the time you called he forgot that he said it. Confusion = MLC. The mask that he is wearing right now is not letting you see his pain. He can put on a happy face and you think that all is wonderful in his fantasy land.
You must keep living your life and let him realize that you are not the cause of his pain.
