My battalion, who has been saying for MONTHS that there will be no partial attendance at annual training and no personally owned vehicles driven down decided LAST NIGHT that they'll authorize some partials.
I will be in Hawaii Aug 18-25 for a friend's wedding. He planned this wedding around the yearly training calendar that said annual training would be in July.
Battalion then moved it to August 6-22nd. So those of us attending the wedding pushed back and said well if there's no partials we can't go, we already have plane tickets, hotel reservations, and have RSVP'd to this wedding. It's not our fault you guys changed the date.
Flash forward to today. LAST NIGHT they decide they'll allow partial ATs. Now I'm supposed to be at AT. It starts FRIDAY.
I have one week off from work for Hawaii. Now I'm supposed to go to my boss on one week's notice and tell him that I'm sorry, I actually do have to go to the training thing that they said I didn't have to attend. I'm sorry it's fire season, I know we're busy, I know I have meetings, I know I have all kinds of stuff scheduled, but the Army changed it's mind!?!?!?!!? So now I'll be gone three weeks instead of one. Theoretically. My boss is NOT gonna be happy. *sigh*
Plus, I already signed up for correspondence classes to make sure I have enough points for a good retirement year (it's a reserves thing) towards my 20 years. So I don't NEED annual training. And frankly, I'm not that important. I don't know who decided that I just HAVE to go to AT. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Oh, the reason they changed the dates? They didn't plan far enough ahead. By the time they got around to requesting training areas and barracks the dates we had scheduled didn't work. Someone else had taken them.
I'm sorry, but YOUR LACK OF PLANNING DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY ON MY PART.
This is not a deployment.
This is not a guard activation for an emergency like a fire, flood, or riot.
This is annual training. I should be able to rely on the schedule THEY PUBLISHED!!??!?!?!?!?

I know I wouldn't last long in the military. I question too much and want to know why and how. I am sure I would be given a little tiny toothbrush and told to clean the latrine and then discharged dishonorably!
I would also be telling then where to stick it...yep I would be in trouble.

Heh. I'm tempted. I sent a rather...blunt...e-mail to my nat'l guard boss:
If BN does cut individual orders for AT, [others attending the wedding] and I will need to travel back on the 15th if we carpool for safety reasons as the travel date is the 16th first thing in the am. We all have others traveling with us, so trying to change plane tickets would cause problems as they don’t have military orders which would allow us to change their flights.
Additionally, we both need copies of the individual orders to complete our military leave requests. I will have to submit my time sheet before we leave as time sheets will be due during the period I am gone and I assume that he will face the same problem.
We planned to not attend AT since BN was saying no partial ATs until last night. It will honestly be quite a scramble to arrange to be gone between our respective work duties and his child care issues. This last minute change frankly poses big work conflicts for both of us.
I would like to know, who is actually pushing the issue of our attendance? I understand the pressure from BN to have a good turnout, but if they will accept us missing AT, we signed up for correspondence classes in order to ensure we have points for a good year and neither of us will be hurt financially by not attending."
I think it was fairly diplomatic considering how b!tchy I feel right now.
