My dad has the good old Irish temper and he holds grudges(yes, I always knew where I got that from). I talked to S17 a lot last night. Neither of us really know what to say to set things right. He does know that I am proud of him for speaking up and he said that he just had to say something.
So I am trying to focus on today(I didn't sleep well at all). Take what was pleasant from yesterday and dump the rest. Lots to catch up on. Thanks for helping by talking me through this.

So sorry lunch turned into a mess. Even without knowing the cost difference, that seems like such a small and stupid thing to make a fuss about on a special day. Knowing the cost, he very much overreacted.
Glad S17 handled it maturely.
Glad you enjoyed the movie.
Today is a new day!
You know what Irish Alzheimers is right?

Condolences on the lunch, family can be sooooo special. Would you rather some stranger ruin your birthday? I think not! I hope you're feeling better today
I am feeling better today, thanks. Just trying to figure out a way to make it right. The longest my dad went without talking to me when I was a kid was 2 weeks. It was awful. We have another birthday to celebrate in 12 days, so we will see how it goes then.
The thing is the alarm did go off at my house. Someone was messing with my side door enough to set it off. So a stranger did contribute to the ruining of the day. I just said anyone one else want to be mad at me or say anything to upset me do it now so we can get it out of the way! Oh and no, the house was secure when the police showed up, everything still locked so they didn't get in. Nothing worse than being an hour away and can't do anything. We called a friend and he went and checked it out and called us back so we knew what was going on.
Tomorrow's mini do over with the kids will make it better.

Well I wasn't actually joking, I knew he liked it at Old Chicago. I don't know if my dad thought it cost more or what...really no clue. I was talking to my Mom about it for a few minutes today and said I didn't have a clue that Dad was telling him he couldn't have it. I mean say what you mean don't play word games. How was S17 supposed to know he was saying no when even I didn't??
My Mom said she could tell by the look in his eye that he was saying no and that she should have said something to S17. Really Dad should have just been direct and said it himself end of issue. It is so stupid isn't it? Not like he ordered a $26 dollar meal while we all got something that was about $8. Then he somehow started making this into him not being cheap. WTF??? If someone gets it explain it to me. Yes they spent a lot on me/us yesterday and I offered and tried to pay for a few things and they wouldn't let me.

Well, if your dad wants to talk about it, maybe your only thing should be, if you didn't want him to order it, you should have just plainly said so and we could have avoided the miscommunications.
End of story.
Hope the issue is dead and gone though.
Have fun tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!

OK, you call Dad in and tell him that you've decided that it's just not working out, you've given it 45 years but now feel it would be unfair to keep him on as your Dad. Give him a fair exit package and start interviewing for the newly created position. It's just the right thing to do. Either that or promote him!
