I am back and sadly the day went downhill at lunch. We went and saw Salt which I thought was pretty good. Then went to Old Chicago for lunch. I asked s17 what he was getting. He said he didn't know. I said I bet you want the steak , then my Dad makes some comment about not being cheap. I thought he was teasing S17. Well S17 orders steak and all hell breaks lose. My Dad said that S17 made his choice and my Dad now won't be getting him anything ever again. Then he makes some comment about not wanting to ruin his daughters birthday. Too late. I said let me just get lunch and I start to cry. Really don't know where that came from. Anyway I left the table to calm down and the rest of the day was pretty well shot. We did go to the mall and do the trampoline thing like but this dark cloud just hang over everything. On top of that the alarm company calls that my alarm is going off. Someone has
messed with the side door enough to st the alarm off.

My parents did get me a gift certificate and gave me the money to cover my day off plus paid for everything today. S17 bought me Leap Year and d11 made me a plate she painted. Of course I got lots of good wishes.

Some things I have learned this past year: if someone says they don't want to hurt you, they will; if someone says they don't want to fight, they will and when someone says they don't want to ruin your birthday they will.

OMG Kat. I'm so sorry that happened during your birthday lunch. WTH got into him? I'm so so so sorry.

Sometimes things just get out of hand at the wrong time.

The gifts from your kids sound lovely and well though out. I hear that Leap Year is an adorable, fun movie and the scenery can't be beat. Of course, it's Ireland so you won't be disappointed!!!!!

I hope the rest of your birthday is wonderful and serene.

Sorry, kat.
Try to put it out of your mind and just enjoy the last hours of your day.

I am watching the movie. The gift certificate my parents got me was to a spa so at least I can get destressed. The kids want to do a do over with me Thursday so that does help some. Thanks for the kind wishes here and on the alt. Those did cheer me up to come home and see. smile

Aw kat, so sorry. I'm sure part of it was just feeling how things are a bit different now and the whole steak/cost thing was just the last straw?

However, the rest of the stuff sounds nice and thoughtful so try to focus on that. A do over sounds great!

((hugs))

The really upsetting thing is that it was maybe $4.00 more. Then on top of that he had water, so really only a difference of two dollars. S17 apologised that he didn't understand that he didn't want him to order it. S17 even offered to buy dinner and Dad told him to shut up. My Mom tried to calm my Dad down and she even cried.

When I was a kid I never stood up to my Dad. I find myself doing that more often now. He really went overboard. I don't know how this will get fixed . I am proud of S17 for standing up for himself. Awful that they didn't speak the rest of the day. frown

Kat, dads will be dads...he's probably just a grumpy guy like most of us will eventually turn into in our older age. He probably had a budget in mind and hearing 'steak' threw him off thinking 'oh no there goes that budget' without any logical thinking or calculations. You can mention to him that you appreciated the dinner but you wish he didn't make a big deal over the $2 differe. No need to fix anything...it's done it's over but maybe next time things will be better.

Just tell S17 you're proud of him that he appologized and tried to offer to buy dinner etc. Make him feel he did a great job and then be proud you've raised a great kid. At 17 kids these days are not well behaved like S17.
