Does anybody here do meditation? As I mentioned Sunday I went to a meditation class and have been practising daily during the week. What I've noticed is that I feel really tired afterwards. I try to do some meditation/deep breathing for half an hour at lunch daily and afterwards I'm washed out for the afternoon! In the evening when I do it I'm not as washed out but sure aren't energized either. Isn't meditation supposed to calm you but re-energize you too? How did others feel when they first started meditating? Thanks.

Found this: http://www.meditationcenter.com/info/questions.html

It's not unnatural to become tired at times in meditation... afternoons are actually the most common time to experience this. However, there are a couple of possible reasons for the tiredness you are experiencing.

One, is that you are releasing some deeply rooted "stress" or "psychic/emotional toxins." This can sometimes bring about a tired feeling, in or out of meditation. If this is the case, the tiredness should pass when the release cycle is complete.

The other possibility is that you are, in fact, tired - either on a day to day level, or at a deeper level of your being - and need a bit of extra rest. If this is the case, I suggest you take a short nap at the end of your meditation (if time allows). Post-meditation naps can actually be very healing.

Whichever it is, experiencing tiredness when meditating does not mean there is anything wrong. It's all part of a gradual process of healing and transformation.

Could being really, really drunk at the time have anything to do with it? ...just kidding! Thanks Romeo, that's a great help. I checked with a co-worker, who is a reformed Sufi, and he too said that if you're tired that can create that fatigued feeling after meditation. I don't get it in the evening, only in the afternoon. But, Adrenal Fatigue makes you tired during the day and you get a second wind in the evening. I keep forgetting that I have this fatigue thing and then wonder "what's wrong with me" when something comes up...duhhhh. So, I guess it's just plug ahead here and see where it goes! I'm doing Qi Gong every second night now and meditating/breathing each evening.

OK, does anybody else have a 16 year old? Aren't they rare creatures! I come home tonight and D13 comments "it smells like garbage in here" and D16, who has been home all day, says "I noticed that so I've been spraying the house with Fabreeze" I said "Uh, you could've taken the garbage out" Apparently that never occurred to her. Next, I go into the washroom and just like magic the toilet paper roll is empty...again...hey kid, ever think of putting a new roll in? NO no no! Lastly, I'd asked her to do the laundry today, which wasn't done, "Oh, daddy I went to the laundry room but couldn't figure out which buttons to push, I'm used to mommy's machines" I reply "OK, why didn't you call me at work" she says "OH I tried (Once) and your phone went right to voice mail (of course, she never left a message). I dropped them at their mom's, I think it's best for this evening anyway grin

You may want to breathe more often...I have to breathe about 12 times per minute otherwise I start turning blue grin

So that's what I have to look forward to in 10 years? goodness as I wrote that I can't believe DD will be 16 in just 10 years. I can't believe she's already turning 6. They grow up so fast. And I'll be 45...wonder when I'm going to hit my MLC- I hear that's when you find the good stuff? Red Corvettes, 10 year younger blondes and all... grin

OK Romeo, you wanted some books that really work, here goes:

I'm with Stupid

How to Make Yourself Miserable For the Rest of the Century

Get in Touch With Your Inner Rodent

Getting Screwed Around On For Dummies

Things I've learned From Women Who've Dumped Me

The Berlitz Guide to Affair Talk (with CD)

OK now, just for fun, tell me which of these books DON'T really exist?

LOL!!!! I swear, Wii, you have to be one of the wittiest (is that how you spell that????) people I've encountered. You always seem to keep me laughing. Thanks!!!

Yeah, I have a 15.5 year old and he drives me over the edge most days. I have to practically give him step by step instructions to do anything remotely related to caring for the house. I sent him out to mow the lawn last week and he came back in less than 10 minutes later. Ummm...yes, the yard isn't big but it's not the size of a postage stampe either. I went out and looked and it looked like someone had taken a scythe to it in a few spots. I have no idea how he managed to do that with a lawn mower that is self-propelled. CRAZY KID!
