Let me add one more thing. Confidence is attractive for both men and women. Cockiness is not. Their is a fine line between the two but you'll know the difference when your faced with it.
That was part of my first point- not caring what others think about how they should be.
You have to feel good about yourself if you want someone else to care for you.
