Is he a family law atty? Any experience in "men's rights" and paternal custody issues?
If you pay him a retainer, try to get it set up so you can get any unspent portion of it REFUNDED to you should you and your wife reconcile. Mine did, and I got a nice chunk back (my wife's did not).
