I started a liver detox and St. John's Wort yesterday. My Naturopath thinks they will help "take the edge off" for me. My liver is a little fatty (I gave her a copy of the tests my doctor did in March)and SJW can be used for anxiety/depression. She doesn't believe I am clinically depressed (nor do I), but my nervous system has just been in fight or flight mode for so long it doesn't know how to turn off, which is pretty much how you get Adrenal Fatigue. I'll give it a go, see what happens. Anybody else ever done a liver detox or used SJW? What was your experience? I'm damned tired tonight and that's most likely due to the detox and SJW. I met my friend today to drive him to a store to buy a couch, which he took all of ten minutes to select (he loves shopping!) but afterwards I had to come home and lie down. The naturopath said fatigue is normal the first few days of taking these things. Anyway, back to watching my city burn.

wii,
For Liver support and health I use Milk Thistle (Nature's Way Thysilyn, specifically. Maybe three times a year I buy a bottle and use it up. It's not an everyday, all-the-time supplement.
Along with several Amino Acids, Sam-E has given me the same AD relief as ADs.
fwiw.

Gardener, I've read about Sam-E. There's a couple of other alternatives out there too. Did you have or do you have any side effects from Sam-E? My Naturopath says SJW works well on the nervous system. I've always resisted using anything, natural or otherwise but I decided to try this and see if it gives me a little boost. I just don't like side effects of any type! I'm planning to do some Yoga regularly again as well. Before I got the Bronchitis I had just started again, then got sick.
The liver detox I'm using contains Parsley,Beet, Dandelion and Uva-ursi leaf...it's sure cleaning me out!

wii,
No side effects from SAM-e.
With natural amino acid supplements, I got off ADs a quite a while ago.
Check out The UltraMind Solution by Mark Hyman. At the very least, go to a bookstore and take the short quizzes in the beginning of the book. They showed me (later confirmed by blood tests) what amino acids I was deficient in.

People do not suffer depression because their brains are deficient in Zoloft, Lexapro, et al. Often, they are deficient in neurotransmitter-supporting amino acids.

wii, last night on my thread you mentioned quitting alcohol 30 years ago. How old are you, if I may ask?

I'm 52, Gardener. So I quit booze at about 22 years of age after drinking myself into a lot of personal sh!t at a young age.

Wii,

I stopped my AD's when I lost my medical insurance and went downhill very fast. I started using SJW almost a year ago and it has been a great help along with C. I haven't had any side effects at all from it. I did a liver detox about 2 months ago and it really made me exhausted for the first 2 days but then I got a huge burst of energy. I hope it's the same for you.

Thanks Mish! So the fatigue I'm feeling yesterday and today is probably the detox. I wasn't sure whether it was the SJW or not and, in hindsight, I should probably have started one first and the other later on in the week. I'm hoping for a burst of energy for work tomorrow! But, it doesn't hurt to lie around the house for a day or two, does it. Maybe if I'm a feeling a little more energetic tonight I'll go to our evening church service, we'll see. I won't push myself.
