That vacation would disappoint me too. Interesting to hear your WAS best friend's comments about keeping in contact. Sometimes I think both is no-win. They resent if you do, resent if you don't. Maybe I've grown too cynical.
I don't think you're too cynical. It's just the way it is. Sometimes there's nothing you can do that will please a person. It's the "[edited] if you do, [edited] if you don't." Ugh.
