What's the best way to find out that your spouse is filing for divorce?

When he sends it to you in an e-mail, of course!

H said that he wanted to give me a "heads up." I now officially hate the phrase "heads up."

I can't say that I'm surprised. I tried to hope for the best but expect the worst, and I think this helped me keep my sanity, have a positive mental attitude, and still be a realist through these last 6 months. I haven't completely given up hope yet, either, but I'm also not going to have any romantic notions about miraculous reunions.

Fortunately, I had contacted an attorney not quite two months ago, so I simply responded to his e-mail with this: "Please tell your lawyer to have any paperwork delivered to [my attorney's name] at [insert name of our town's best divorce law firm here]. Thank you for the heads up. Hope you're enjoying your vacation."

Here are the comments and responses from interested parties upon hearing the e-mailed news:

Black best friend: "Are you serious? Oh, hell no. [edited] this mother [edited]."

White best friend: "Seriously? That is just so typical."

Sister: "WHAT? Are you KIDDING me?? That is the biggest load of bull$h!+ I've ever heard. What the hell is wrong with him? He is an @$$-chewing mother [edited]."

Fellow nurses at sister's medical clinic: "Take yourself a big dose of laxative and get that piece of $h!+ out of your system."

And, of course, this post would be dreadfully incomplete without WORDS FROM FATHER:

"Now just what the hell is wrong with him?"

"Somebody ought to [edited] this son of a [edited]."

"Is his stuff still there? It is? Well, his time for free storage is UP. It goes NOW."

"Oh, this mother [edited] is unbelievable."

"The best thing he can do for hisself [actual word used] is to WALK and KEEP walking."

"He BETTER not think he gets anything out of this. Like your house. He won't even try if he wants to keep his [edited] intact."

"Good riddance."

"Get over him. Move on. Forget about this [edited edited edited edited edited]."

It's also pure serendipity that I already had an appointment with IC scheduled for today. I'll post her thoughts later.

More information will come as it becomes available.
