Had a very enjoyable evening with WH last night.

He returned from his out-of-town trip around 3:30, dropped his stuff at home and went straight into work. I refused to stress about it, just told him, "Ok, see you later."

The kids and I were eating dinner outside when he wandered home around 7:30. He got annoyed that I hadn't set a place for him, but he got over it once I had son run fetch him a beer. He immediately joined in conversation about school, weekend activities, etc., and had kids clamoring for his attention.

I asked him what was the coolest thing he'd seen at the meeting, and he said the coolest thing was actually something he'd seen BEFORE the meeting, in his own lab. He ran got his laptop and pulled up some images from one of his experiments, where they'd been staining tissue samples with jelly fish venom. It was COOL! It was also the first time in probably 5 years he'd actually shown me any of his work.

I made a big fuss over it, told him how smart he was, asked him how he came up with the experiments, etc., and he showed me other stuff he'd been doing. (I've been so caught up in affair drama that I'd kinda forgotten he actually manages to do work!) Had to ask for "layman's terms" on lots of things, but he patiently explained it all to me - just like old times.

I took dishes into house and when I back came out, he was in the garden. We continued friendly conversation for another 30 minutes as we strolled around the house, looking at all his plants, and he kept saying, "Next year, I'd like to do this, this, and this."

Bottom line: I saw more of my husband - the man I fell in love with - in 2 hours last night than I have in the last 2 years.

He then went to bed in the basement.

<sigh>

But it's DEFINITELY progress!
