Need a Plan for My Marriage

Hi CityGirl,

It is the same here for going after attorney fees, but I have to pay the attorney first.

I will go to this law firm on Thursday for $20 to see if they can help me some. I hope to at least file the paperwork and maybe get some motions put in place. I will go to court by myself as last alternative. I know I am a "fool" if I do. I have to do what I can.

I am so emotional today, and I try hard not to be, but I cannot help it. I do not know how I let myself get in this situation. I wish I could change things. I can only do the best for me and the kids now and in the future. They do need me, and I do not want to be a dad that is not apart of their life.

I so much appreciate everybody here and the responses I have received. It is so nice to have people to talk to.

I do want to be positive and be happy for me and my kids. They deserve so much, and I need to do all I can for them. I love them!!!

Sorry, I thought you had retained counsel already.

Do you belong to a credit union? Often times they are less stringent with loans than a traditional bank.

Do you have any retirement funds you can borrow. Normally I would not suggest that but if you need counsel then you need it.

Where in L.A. are you? I know somebody that retained a very good attny for about 1500.00 less than the quotes you are getting.

Try and think of the money you need in smaller chunks. Do you have anything you can put on eBay or Craiglist to sell? Can you have a yard sale to raise some funds?

Another suggestion would be to call the state bar association and see if they can lead you to resources you may not be aware of. Attnys would much prefer a lump sum check instead of working with a third party (agency for assistance for example) and might not be telling you about the available help out there.

Also, contact any human service agencies in your county and see if they might have resources.

It is okay.

I do not belong to a credit union. I have no retirement. I have nothing to sell. I have pretty much nothing at the moment. It is my fault I allowed myself to be in this position with all the best intentions towards my wife and kids. It is my fault for that. I cannot change these mistakes, but I am trying to do what I can for now and the in the future.

I live about 12 miles from Los Angeles airport.

I am still talking to my parents about the prints to sell, and whatever else I can do.

I try your advice and call the State Bar Association today.

I appreciate everyone here for helping me to keep my hope alive. I cannot lose that!

Well, lets keep thinking then. The best solutions are usually very well hidden!

If you look under "gigs" under the LA area of Craiglist often you will find people look for immediate help (landscapers, catering companies, movers and so on). Perhaps you can pick up a few "gigs" to at least get the "legal fund" started.

Do you have any old gold? Gold is selling for a decent price right now and many jewelers are buying it left and right.

Hey LSG - I just called Luv (another poster here) and she is going to try and get in contact with you (RE: attny with a smaller retainer than the quotes you are getting).

She did TONS of research on attnys and found herself a good one for a more reasonable retainer than the quotes you are getting.

She is in LA also!

How are you doing? It sounds like you have a lot of stress on you too as most of us here. You are always supportive, and I thank you. I still hope the best for you. I feel some similarities in our sitches unfortunately.

I am so glad that CityGirl and luvless are helping me too. I know I have people that are there for me and I am very thankful for that.

I am looking for solutions everywhere, and I will continue to do that.

I will keep trying. I have not given up on having hope. That is all I can do.
