I don't know, I debated with myself about it for a couple hours. He did ask nicely.
I think it was partly a desire to catch up on what's going on with the in-laws and chance to talk about a couple of kid issues, but mostly acting polite and pleasant until the paperwork is signed.
It felt like a trial run for future interactions- polite chit chat about family and friends, and avoiding anything too personal.
I understand. Sounds like it certainly made sense at the time. Glad to see you're not letting your guard down.
