I love water, although I've never spent much time in the ocean.

I am definitely trying to check a few things off the list. Alone can definitely be cheaper LOL.

Love surfing! Miss it! I always did much better on a body board too. Have you ever tried skim boarding? That is loads of fun but hurts REALLY bad when you fall because you're right on the sand.

I haven't try skim boarding! Nor body surfing. Perhaps I will branch out later.

The problem with being this far north is that it requires a lot of gear - I will end up buying a wetsuit in all likelihood cuz renting one will get expensive after a while, the only question is whether to buy a 4/3 or a 3/2 - I rented a 3/2 and it was a bit thin for 53 degree water. A 4/3 would have been much nicer. But in a couple months, the 3/2 will probably be better, while the 4/3 might be too hot. Too many decisions!!!!! LOL

Ugh. So, I found out that a couple I am pretty good friends with are having huge issues. He is having a PA (with a woman 8 yrs older who is unemployed and living off (and still living with) her husband) and moved out (living with a guy who used to be a mutual friend but who is taking her H's side in all this now and no longer speaking to her), leaving her with their 3 yr old boy.

She thought I knew from him and was avoiding talking to her. Yeah, right! I set her straight on that and we spent almost 7 hrs on Sunday talking, she also called me last night. I loaned her my copy of DR and sent her MWD's blog on the LRT.

It's so sad to see this happening to them! They've been together 12 yrs, have the most beautiful sweet kid, and always seemed to be so supportive and respectful of each other, and happy!

The best part is, they are Mormon. As is the girl her H is having a PA with (in entertaining news, my girlfriend told OW's bishop and got her into trouble - OW will probably lose her temple privileges).

Oh. And he tried to set the date of separation at 4 days before their 10 year anniversary. He claims it wasn't planned, yeah right. (Cali has the long-term marriage set at 10 years)

All I can say is, this not only brings up a ton of bad memories, but man oh man does it make me never want to get M again! LOL.

That sucks about your mormon friends. I still would bet that infidelity is pretty low with mormons.

Northern California has about the same frigid water as Oregon. But consider, that as you get better, you will be spending less time fully submerged in the water (from falling). Also, being on and paddling a surf board in a 4/3 suit when the air temps reach 80 could be quite uncomfortable. There are many other factors to consider in your wet suit selection but a good fit is probably one of the most important...

http://360guide.info/wetsuits/complete-wetsuit-guide.html

When I was in high school, I used to scuba dive in the NW. I started with a zippered quarter inch suit, but when I outgrew that, a guy in the dive club made me a 3/8 inch think suit with no zippers. That was a tough one to put on, and once on, I could hardly wait to get in the water as it was so very hot.

BTW... Since our coast is a popular habitat for Mr Great White, you might want to get some lettering on your suit that says "Not Edible".

Yeah, I would too. Especially practicing ones. It's a long stretch to go from not having alcohol, caffeine, smoking, etc. (I guess the theory is about keeping the body pure) to full-on breaking a commandment by committing adultery with another married Mormon.

I mean, he sounds pretty MLC (especially since I've known him for like 4 yrs and was utterly shocked to hear about all this (and see his pics on facebook LOL)). But I was shocked even more by the fact that his OW is also Mormon. *Shakes head*

Ah well. I'm certainly going to give her any resources I can, and she's already going to counseling both through her ward (I guess that's the smallest unit of their church organization, and above that is a stake) and a MC. OH! Which reminds me! She actually got him into MC for a while, but he was covering up the PA and lying to the C about his drinking and such, so when my girlfriend brought proof in, the MC told him that she wouldn't see them anymore because C is based on openness and trust and he obviously didn't want to do the work. LOL.

Anywho, yeah, I definitely won't be going out to Monterey or SF bay as the great white breeding grounds are out there. I think we'll keep making the 4-5 hr drive down to the central coast where it's a lil warmer and the sharks are of the tiger variety LOL.

The Farallon Islands have quite a few Great Whites considering the Sea Lion and Elephant Seal population there. Someone would have to pay me big money to go sea kayaking there.

(((Michelle)))

That is rough about your friends and must bring up some painful memories. Good job on giving her the LRT advice, I hope she follows it.

Hahaha. Not Edible! Nibbling is okay in certain circumstances...but bites that draw blood are a big no-no! LMAO

My friend J seemed very receptive to all this. Coming from a blended family, she is quite adamant that she doesn't want that for their son. I'm definitely going to make myself available to her. Also send her the links to my first few threads if she wanted to read all the advice I got. I was reading thru them a bit, and it was just crazy to see how much has changed in the last 3 years!
