I dreaded telling her. She is not known for having much sensitivity or for being empathetic, and this was a side of her I've really never seen. It was wonderful. It makes me want to see her again for more advice next weekend, even if it means risking spending time around boyfriend and lunatic uncle.
Isn't it wonderful when you get wise advice from relatives that you would have never considered "safe" to ask for their opinion? I had an encouraging chat with my cousin from overseas; she had a lot of understanding for my situation and good advice regarding GAL and patience. I never asked her for advice (while I have listened to her problems in the past), because it seemed to me that our approaches would be very different. One never knows where the sources of inspiration come from!
