I did the same thing when my ex & I met, I kept him from filing bankruptcy. I didn't pay his bills for him out of my money, but I helped him get things straightened out. After we married, I took out a loan, paid off all his debts in 2 years & we had great credit after that. He was so proud when we would go to get a loan or buy something on 6 months same as cash deal b/c our credit was so great! Always paid things off early. The credit cards we had together where cut up & we kept them paid off each month, so that wasn't a problem when we D but it sounds like that might be a problem in your sitch. If you get him to take over the CC then you need have it in writing to either pay that card with your name on it off & close that account or somehow get your L to send the CC company notice that you are no longer responsible for it. There are legal ways to get this taken care of.
