Hey BA - The CG had some of the same bus driver uniform as the Air Force. We also had the Maytag repairman work uniform. The one I liked that we could wear was the Navy dungarees with bell bottom jeans. We used to mix and match a lot as the CG was not real strict on what you wore. When I became 2nd class, I used a felt tip marker to add another strip to my dungaree shirts.
I went TDY once and had to wear my service dress uniform on the flight. When I got off the plane in Chicago and was checking the status for my connecting flight into Rock Island, Illinois, this lady came up to me and started complaining to me about why I hadn't gotten the plane to arrive in Chicago on time and that she was going to miss her flight!
That is too funny that you simply got away with just using a felt marker to add a stripe for your new rank. We had a couple of Coasties in a NCO Leadership class that I took in Guam back in the early 80's. They were two of the most laid back dudes I have ever seen in a uniform!
Too funny about the airport experience. You should have told her to fly on one of your F-15/16's to get there quicker.
A group of us went to "Killer School" in Fort Lewis Washington so as to be better prepared for drug boardings. It was funny waiting in line for food as the Army guys were all at attention and us Coasties were like a bunch of beatniks slacking off wearing all different kinds of uniforms (some with white paint spills). And we had some chiefs and officers among us.
Kat gets to have all the sexy talk on her thread and I am getting uniform stories...if they are going to be stories about men in uniform I want some sizzle dangit!
Just filled in for a sick teacher's after school duty. And me without my coat bc I left it at the other building (I work in two buildings)...stupid drizzle! I love thunder but not this crud.
Semper emailed again a bit ago. He gave me his phone number...his writing style definitely leans toward the younger text crowd and the slang crowd... He had been out buying furniture last night and is 'fittin to go back again today'. Haven't heard anyone say 'fittin to' since I worked in St. Louis. This could definitely be interesting!
Well need to go accomplish something before youth group. The pastor at my church is the former youth pastor. He is still doing that job plus the main pastor job so he asked me to start coming and helping with youth group on Weds. nights...I think it will be fun!
Hey now! Us St. Louisans do not say "fittin" either, maybe wa(r)sh and highway farty-far, and others but not "fittin" and we do not think it is a compliment to be called a hoosier either!

Fittin' to? In the south it's Fixin' to. Both are equally disturbing but I've actually caught myself using fixin' to a couple of times and almost choked on my tongue!

I taught in the actual CITY of St. Louis. Wow what an incredible year that was. Good and bad. Had a love/hate relationship with it... And my kids said fixin to/fiddin' to/fittin to, depending on the kid! Lots of variations.
I remember the Hoosier jokes. I lived on the IL side and there was a fun bar band called Hoosier Daddy...loved it! Hoosier was definitely used as an insult!
