Aren't Ds great? Mine gave me so much affirmation when things first went south. Then I heard from them how well I was dealing with the situation (along with an occasional 2x4, I confess). Today I had flowers and long phone calls. They have been incredible through this, in spite of their own disillusionment. I am so grateful that they are in my life.
I went out for a nice dinner tonight by myself. I would have preferred company, but enjoyed it anyway, talking sporadically with an older couple at the next table over a huge Bourbon Manhattan (struggled not to order a 2nd) and fresh seafood.
We all have things we can choose to be thankful for, with or without our partners. I choose my Ds first among all.
