One of my courses this last semester was Religious Studies: The New Testament, and while studying the NT from an academic perspective, I realised something ---- for 2,000 years, people have been believing in someone, Jesus, even though most of them couldn't read the scriptures. And, the one's who could read it, believed even more deeply. So, there are arguments to be made about the details, but one thing is certain (in my mind, anyway) something amazing happened, and it involved this Jesus the Nazarene, otherwise this faith that people have would long have been lost to some other "god". Even Moslems believe that Jesus existed, even if only as a prophet.
