I wrote a story, and one of the main charactess was Jack from the fairy tales. In my research I discovere that Jack was the most commonly used named in fairy tales and in nursery rhymes...Tom being the second most common for both...in the English versions.
Jack was an EVERYMAN...or everyboy in some stories. No different than anyone else.
I also discovered that Jack had no last name, so in order to distinguish Jack and the Bean Stalk from Jack the Giant Killer... or the Mighty Tailor in some versions although : ) I think they are both the same... I needed to come up with a last name. So Jack 3 Beans.
I also discovered that in the American versions Jack relied more on wit and cunning than on the Europena versions relying on magic and others to help him out.
Jack is the hero I want to be, and a reluctant hero in my story...anyway...
That is why Jack for me.
