I do see his contacting you a lot "about DS" as a way to keep you in tow. To keep you "there". As Puppy said... no excuse... but you keep telling yourself that's he's screwed in the head... because he IS.
He's on autopilot probably right now. Not much of what he's doing or has done is going to make much sense.
As for being bullied... yeah...put your feet down and say, it's mother's day... he's with me. case closed.
