There are some studies and my personal experience that mixing it up WHILE working out seems to have some great results.

A 30 minute workout.

5 minutes normal biking.

2 minutes all out.

3 minutes slighty faster pace than normal.

3 minutes normal

2 minutes all out

3 minutes slighty faster pace than normal.

2 minutes all out

5 minutes normal

2 minutes all out

3 minutes slightly faster than normal.
