Was out doing yard work an hour ago. Got a text from Golf Guy (GG). If you recall he and I went to school together I have known him since about 5th grade. In fact in 5th grade he and his best friend both asked me to 'go with' them at the same time... I picked the friend. GG went golfing w/my cousin last weekend, found out I was single, and messaged me on FB.
So anyway he texted me asking if I was free on Friday bc he'd like to take me out for dinner/drinks and then go to a birthday party for our mutual friend/his best friend. Chad, the best friend, lives here in town and actually IM'd me on facebook over the winter when he saw one of my frustrated status updates. We chatted for a bit about Dan and so he knows the situation, why we split up, etc.
I thought about it for a minute bc all the crap about don't respond too quickly, be vague, etc etc. But screw that. After about 20 min I replied that I thought it would be great. However I have to work my elementary school carnival until 7 that night. He replied back right away that it was no problem, that wasn't too late, in fact he offered to come help work the carnival since it was his old elementary and he is familiar with the annual carnival...
So anyway it will be a bit of a 'coming out' for me bc our mutual friend Chad has kept in touch with all the guys from high school. Several of them and their wives will most likely be at this party...I think it will be fun. If nothing else I can reconnect with old friends who live here in town and expand my social network.
Oh, and guys, just saying up front "I want to take you out to dinner" is a refreshing approach...mature even!
