"Hitting bottom" is personal. For me, hitting bottom was having my wife come to me and tell me she was done with our marriage. For the third time.

For an alcoholic, hitting bottom may be having a spouse leave them for drinking too much. Or it could be being arrested for DUI. It could be a life-threatening car crash. Or maybe they never truly hit bottom; they just keep making excuses. The important thing is, you have hit bottom when you realize that your life is unmanageable and you need to take steps to address your issues.

Most all of us LBS's are here because we have hit that stage. Some of our WAS's may have hit that stage when they chose to leave; some of them may be leaving because they haven't hit that stage yet.
