I think I would put things in the other order. Though you can't know for sure what you'll do, I think you should have a good idea before you commit to gathering the intel. And I think you should make a definite plan for what you'll do immediately. The last thing you want to do is act out of raw emotion, and committing to a plan ahead of time should help you with that.
Honestly, I really wanted to slap that smug look right off his face. I didn't because I thought I should be the mature one. But there were many days in piecing that I wish I had done it and still wanted to. So I say get it out of your system.
Your plan is smart--know your options and think about what you want before looking at the intel. As you know, people get crazy emotional because we're all human. It's best to feel the emotions but act from reason during this crap.
And if you need someone there, just holler. Always looking for an excuse to get out your way.
