I am close with my H family. Just this past weekend I got together with them for the first time in months. It really depends on the in laws. My in laws were/are fantastic...my H acted a bit strange..but that is the norm. It didn't ruin my time. If you decide to go..act confident..like you belong..like nothing has changed...YOU have nothing to be ashamed of. If they are accepting of you..show your W that you are mature enough to handle such a potentially awkward sitch. My H ended up looking like an a**. I enjoyed dinner with his family...it was a night out- and a good meal.
Don't let it get weepy or emotional. Don't over stay..control the situation..leave when you feel like it is time. Don't expect anything from your W. My H didn't even walk me out. My in laws were appalled..it didn't bother me much- I did feel slightly sad afterwards..but it was well worth it.
The situation will be as awkward as you allow it to be.
