Well....with this lovely new 'healthcare' plan in place Obama will just pull the plug on my mom. Isn't that special? Of course, in 2014 when I still can't afford to pay for health insurance I'll be fined for not having it. Isn't that a hoot? Um....you're going to fine me for not having enough money to buy something I need. What's next? Fine me for not buying more groceries? Fine me for not having heat in the winter? Oh yeah......he's brilliant and so is the disgusting democratic congress.

Oh yeah, I had the health care debate on all weekend long. Hence Nathan's "Nancy Pelosi" name-calling on his sister... I actually thought maybe it would help you out even though I hate the bill...cause I thought maybe it would cover your mom when she can't afford to pay...
Did you hear John Boehner's speech on the floor? If not, look it up on his website or youtube. It was phenomenal. My favorite line was when he asked the proponents of the bill, "Have you read the whole bill? Hell no you haven't!"
LOL! I can't stand to listen to those idiots in congress drone on and on about BS. I hate how they attach their agenda's to important legislation to sneak it through and all this reconcilliation stuff is ridiculous. I am going to have to look up his speech though. Sounds like he told it like it is.
Did you see though that seniors will have to be requalified every so often (can't remember how often) after age 75 to see if they are basically 'worth' treating.
The mainstream media is acting like this is the end-all, be-all of reform and we should all be bowing down at the feet of these 'incredible' members of congress who are creating 'change'. They're creating SOCIALISM! GAG!

Too bad it won't help your mom out. Do you get any rest/respite with her in the hospital, since you aren't having to care for her 24/7?? Or is it about the same as I imagine you spend a lot of time visiting her....
I decided to limit myself to no more than 1-1.5 hours of visiting. I just can't be doing all that running back and forth even with the hospital she is in only 9 miles away. It is a bit of a respite and I am battling my guilt for leaving her there on her own and taking time for myself. I know, my problem. She hasn't been too bad about it this time.
Her case manager told us today that the acute care facility won't take her unless she has a minimum of 3 hours of physical therapy....PER DAY! Excuse me? I couldn't withstand 3 hours of PT per day. She certainly can't! Plus, they don't feel PT will actually help her condition much. She has neuropathy in her legs and severe arthritis in her left knee. They stopped giving her Vicodin because it was what caused all those hallucinations! Go figure!

Just heard from the social worker at the hospital. They have exhausted all options and they have no recourse to keep her there and the acute care won't accept her. She doesn't meet medicare guidelines and the hospital had to stop billing Medicare as of 19MAR so I am responsible for all charges from the hospital from that date on. They can't discharge her today because it's too late to set up home care. They have no options for her and have no suggestions other than get her home and deal with it from there.
They're oh so helpful aren't they?
I can't get her into the house, I can't get her to/from dialsis since I can't get her into/out of the house. How fast can I get that equipment together? No idea. What a freakin' mess.
Heads up everyone! GET LONGTERM CARE INSURANCE AND FOR GOD'S SAKE NEVER LET IT LAPSE! You'll be put on the street to die if you don't have it.

I'm not going to express an opinion on whether the "new" healthcare reform is good or bad, but all this has happened under the existing system. Hard to argue that it's not broken, whether or not you agree with the fix.
