Thanks SR - I know all that I do but he is leaving next week and want him to get some things done around the house.

Reframe this to

I need things done around my house. If my partner is not going to get them done then I will hire them done as my time is precious too.

Then go out & hire the hottest looking yard care provider you can find for the day he is due to come back from his trip & make sure you are planted in a lawn chair on the back deck watching/admiring the work get done when he comes home.
