I think you should just look into applying or take a coding class at a community college which is tons cheaper. Sometimes they will pay to train the right person. Check it out by going to the source. Schools are out to make money.
Ex worked for BCBS of Kansas and they paid for him to take a coding class. check it out.

I'd definitely do research on any of these schools who offer programs. Is there a real certificate or accreditation that you'll get at the end that actually is applicable when applying for jobs? Oftentimes the local community college have better options for cheaper and that have financial assistance available.
I would find and attend a local job fair, find employers who are hiring for the types of positions in which you are interested and talk with them. You might not actually need specific training beforehand and/or they might be able to tell you what your best training options are. Heck, if you don't go to a job fair, chat up someone in the field somehow!

I broke down and told my mother what I want to do. I got no comment from her....just a stare and a bit of an 'humph' sound. I can tell what she's thinking.....'yeah right. another pipe dream crazy idea that won't pan out because she'll give up on it.'
Dang! I'm not going to let her silent disapproval get to me. I'll figure out a way to do this. If it takes me 2 years, then it takes me 2 years. I just hope I can find a way to do it without taking that long. I need a change badly. Of course, I don't know if I can do the work. Most of the time I think my brain shut down about 15 years ago and it's never been able to restart. I don't learn things like I used to. I used to be a straight A honor student (even in the couple of semesters of college I attended) and soaked up information like a sponge. Now I can't concentrate for more than 15 minutes without wandering off somewhere in my head. Maybe it will just take some retraining and practice. I hope I haven't gone dumb from disuse!!!

The brainpower is still there. Just go back and reread your posts. All highly intelligent stuff. It's a confidence thing. You just have to know you can do it.

I did, but I didn't want to get there too early. It was fun even though I'm sick as a dog. I got talked into going to Vegas in the second week of April.
I may back out. I'm just not sure how I can swing it financially even if it's a half-price ticket and just two days.
I'm paying for the night out this morning. I feel awful and I'm supposed to go out tonight with a different group.
Mishka, another thought on career switches, paralegal. That's a field in dire need of people, you can usually do it through business or career colleges and you are helping people.

Mish, I think that is too expensive for such a short program. I would go to your local community college. Ours has a vocational-technical school attached and they have every medical program there is b/w the two colleges. They are way cheaper and have financial aid too. My community college has programs and website for returning students too. They have a whole career counseling/guidance section and they are so nice too. At least check that out first. The whole non-financial aid thing is a red flag to me. Every reputable, accredited college has financial aid; if they don't qualify for that something is wrong imo.
