Its funny how that is...last year when I was still in Texas and I lost my job, I was in a total panic. I had no money, no food, utilities getting ready to shut off, no health insurance, and a kid who needed her meds. I went to social services.

All I was getting was 250 a month in child support, and that alone was forty bucks over the eligibility.

Now I ask you, how the heck are two people supposed to live off 250 a month?

I did get some food stamps, but that was it. I had to wait 60 days to find out if I was eligible for medicaid, and by that time, I was leaving Texas.

They did not count expenses there either, just what the income was. Of course my rent was twice the amount of my c/s.

But I was seeing these pimped out cars coming in, women wearing real gold, total cholitos (Hispanic female gang members). Maybe I should have shown them my tattoos...

Im still standin better than I ever did looking like a true survivor feeling like a little kid Im still standin after all this time and Im picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind..

Also, you can get an order sending his tax refund to you each year to help make up the money he is behind. You should definitely do that!

OH MY GOSH! I had no idea I could do that. The filing fee is $80 but I can't do all the paperwork myself. It totally confuses me. I'd need legal help. For civil action they will not provide assistance and the state agency is no help at all. They throw the papers at you and tell you to get it to them when you figure it out. frown I'm too stupid to figure it out. frown All that legal-ease makes my head spin.

Kalni - Don't get me started on Obama and his idiot 'programs'. The whole idea of change is a nice pipedream, but it's not reality. I won't get into a political discussion about it but suffice it to say that he's not my president. smile

Lola - Sounds like TX is just like GA. There are plenty of assistance programs but you have to be the right 'type' of person to get them. This is the south so change cholitas to something else and you have the same idea. I could spell out some ideas I've had about how to get help but it would sound really awful. It's sad, but true.

Michelle - If I count my mom's income with mine and have a household of 3 it's still too much (by about $100). Again, they don't consider that she has EXTREME medical expenses that take her entire social security income every month (a little over $1300). I make less now than I did 10 years ago. Sucks! I thought you were supposed to gradually get ahead, not further and further behind and paid less and less while the cost of living skyrockets. GAG!

I was talking to my C today about Gabe's non-payment and how I am resigned to him never being a father to Marc. She thinks it's best if I just forget about getting anything from him and concentrate entirely on changing careers. I have NO idea how to do that or when I can do it, but she's right. I need out of my career of 20 years. It's totally dead ended and the pay is atrocious. What the heck should I do though? I'm not trained for anything else and I don't have the time, smarts or money to go back to school. She is saying something in the medical field would be best with my personality but what? It can't take too long to train and it would have to make more than I currently do. Medical Assistants make less, so do LPN's. My assignment for the week is to make a plan and present it to her next week.

Oh gees!

What about medical billing? I don't know about in big offices, but my dentist's biller works at the reception desk so she gets all the people interaction that makes the job a lil more fun then spends the rest of her time coding the stuff to the insurance companies and calling them where there is a problem.

What about paying the $25 to Division of Child Support Services to get their help in collecting it? https://services.georgia.gov/dhr/cspp/do/public/ApplyNow

And sweetie, if you need help reading legal-ese, I went to school just to learn how.

The Divison of Child Support Services is the one that I was talking about. You pay the fee, give them your info then they send you about 30 pages of forms to fill out. It's nutty. A friend of mine has been going through them for 5 years now trying to force her xh to pay on their 4 children. He owes her over 80k in back support and they haven't gotten a nickel out of him. Pretty ineffectual wouldn't you say? frown

I wouldn't want to impose on you Michelle, but I will take you up on the offer if I get beyond stumped. Thank you!

I have been looking at medical billing. I really think that is the place I could get trained the fastest. I have to come up with a plan in the next week to give to my C. SCARY!

It depends on how hard the person tries to not be found.

When I was working small claims, I helped people try and collect judgments all the time. Some of those people were so sleazy they would literally quit their job to avoid having their wages garnished for a $700 judgment. If Gabe doesn't work the system over, they'll get money out of him. You have to be pretty savvy to avoid having anything collected because there are so many options, wage garnishment, deductions from the bank account, taking the tax refund, etc etc etc. Don't give up hope.

You sound pretty stumped already lol. Besides, I just helped RB file a small claims case, so my pro bono time is freed up again. wink

Let Michelle help you! Gabe's dodged his responsibilities long enough, it's time to play hardball. And no giving up before the start! I think you are still way to used to being the martyr, and I think it's time to put a stop to that, too!

Yeah, I guess that was a little 2x4. Only because I care.

2x4 welcome! It's true, he's been skating through all of this while I battle to make it to the next day. I frankly don't care how miserable he is, he chose this and he's going to deal with the consequences of his decisions now. I've had enough!

Then get those forms, let Michelle help you. You know you could also work in banking. Still get to be around a lot of people. I know at least here it paid better than a travel agent.

You could try the airport too. At least you get discounted or free flights when you work for a carrier. You already know alot of the coding. You have options my dear...let your imagination run wild and then let's find a way to get you there!

hugs, kat

I worked for United 5 years. Loved it but the pay stunk. I have actually checked with all the carriers that serve ATL but no one has any openings. I put my resume on file with all of them but it's pretty cut throat.

Banks check credit don't they? Of course, most businesses do now so I've got a LOT of explaining to do. smile It's not like I've tried to skip out on anything (unlike some xh's do!), but I can't exactly pay them either. Oh, the vicious cycle! LOL!
