I can't imagine how frustrated you are! Why are his late bills your problem? You're subjecting yourself to more financial liability? And he's already done the math, minus a medical bill? And he's using a court appearance threat? I guess this answers an earlier question--he was not sincere when he made pleasantries in the previous e-mail.
Good thinking about getting some legal advice. I guess it's time for that. Unfortunately, it seems like he's focusing on all the wrong things (things for himself) instead of thinking about a solution.
