If he is MLC, don't even try to figure him out. We can't know what is going on in their heads, truly. From what I hear both from others and from the times my H has opened up, it is a mess in there and they don't even really know.
There was an interesting thread yesterday here that I thought I would copy here if you want to read it in your spare time :), about how dealing with MLC can be perceived as being a doormat. A lot of the advice may seem like that. People posted some awesome responses that put it into perspective.
