I am lucky never to have hit one. They really jump out of no where and dont give a driver much warning. It seems that the eastern states have more deer, and thus, more deer related wrecks. Check this video out to get a good idea on how quick a deer accident can happen:
I almost smashed into a herd of open range cattle as I rounded a corner at night on a lonely highway in eastern Oregon. That would have left a mark. On that same drive, I ran over 3 jack rabbits in the time period of about 2 minutes.
