LOL I danced by myself at the party...no one was left when I got there! I guess the time dif doesn't help. I am usually on here later at night... Just stopped in to say hi backatya! Glad I made you smile with my shake shake shimmy shimmy...PMA dance.
Great party last week! I hope Pam wasn't too pissed about the mess we left behind.
Yes, I jumped over to your girls' thread (you girls have the best threads) to go dark from my DOOMED thread as Bear suggested. Not much happening in with me, just a count down to a D. It is very hard to get excited about the holidays like this. Maybe another Pam/Bear party???

I've always had good luck with raising my knee into the dog's chest, along with a stern "Off!". For a small dog, a foot usually works. For a really determined dog (doesn't learn after a week or so), you may have to bump harder. Theory is that if it's uncomfortable, they'll stop. Once they understand the word, try to get it in before their front feet leave the ground.
CHL ...for what it is worth (since this may not be something you would recommend) I used a "Gentle Leader" head collar to break my large dogs from jumping up on people as well as to stop my coonhound from barking in the house. I found it to be a very humane option for training and the results were nearly instantaneous with my lab-mix...it took a week with the stubborn coonhound
Now I generally only put the head collar on them in public situations "just in case"...while around the house I only have to SHOW the Coonhound the collar and he immediately stops any inappropriate behaviour.
I have also used "clicker" training with a great deal of success with some of my animals (NOT the coonhound ) as well to reinforce voice commands. What amazed me was how well it worked training one of my cats and my bird. Of course, now whenever I pick the clicker up and the animals see it they all launch into their routines which is hilarious

Hi, I am not familiar with the head collar. I've tried the knee-it's helps only sometimes. She knows that she is doing what she is not supposed to do. The two live in a 50' X 50' pen in my backyard, but they are both on chains because they get out & I live on a busy street. The younger one is very jealous of any attention that I give her mother. If I let the mom off her chain, then go to let the younger one off, she goes ballistic! Then I get her off the chain and they jump all over me until we get out into the field and they run. If I let the young one off her chain first, she jumps all over me when I am trying to get the mom off her chain!
Also, when I take them in the car, the young one will not stay off of me and she weighs 80+ lbs!
I will try to be more consistent and give praise for being good. thanks! kharvey
Kharvery when I take them in the car, the young one will not stay off of me and she weighs 80+ lbs!
We never take our dogs anywhere in the car without belting them in with their pet seat harnesses. Aside from the protection it provides for them in dire situations, it also keeps them from crawling between us and the steering wheel. Better for all.
